The Right Period Underwear for a Light Flow
Every period is unique, especially when it comes to how heavy the bleeding is. This also affects how much menstrual underwear you need and how long you can wear it. A period is considered light when you lose less than 25 millilitres of blood over the course of your entire period. For comparison: on average, around 60 millilitres are lost. Bleeding is usually heaviest during the first two days.

Why is my period lighter?
Every menstruating person's cycle changes over the course of their life. On average, we menstruate 500 times in our lifetime, spread over a total of around 38 years! If we had our period all in one go, we would bleed continuously for almost 7 years … thankfully, that is not the case. Over such a long time, cycle irregularities can happen now and then – that alone is no cause for concern. A lighter period can occur just as easily as a heavier one. There are various possible triggers for changes in how heavy your period is.
Stress or weakened ovarian function due to poor nutrition are probably the most common reasons. However, low oestrogen levels or a gynaecological condition can also be the trigger. If your period is lighter than usual several times in a row, you should get checked by a doctor. Better to be on the safe side in case treatment is needed.
My period isn't coming properly – what should I do?

Illness or stress is not always the reason. Often there are natural causes, such as pregnancy or the menopause. If you cannot rule out why your period is lighter or has stopped completely, or if you have other symptoms as well, it is best to get checked by your doctor.
Is the heaviness of my period a sign of my fertility?
Many people believe that the heaviness of your period says something about your fertility, in other words your ability to get pregnant. It doesn't – as long as you ovulate regularly, you can be just as fertile with a light flow as with a heavy one.
Is period underwear worth it for a light flow?
Plenty of people probably envy you your light period, without ever thinking about the things that can be genuinely tricky for those with a light flow. If you only bleed lightly, tampons often feel uncomfortable. When they don't absorb enough blood, removing them can be painful. Period underwear or a menstrual cup are the perfect alternatives here. And it's no secret – tampons and pads create a huge amount of waste. Did you know it takes several hundred years for tampons and pads to fully decompose? Shocking! Which period underwear is right for a light flow?

For comparison: a normal tampon can absorb around 10 millilitres of blood. A pad absorbs about 5 millilitres.
