These days, a whole range of bathroom products can be replaced with sustainable alternatives. Many people assume that this automatically means higher costs. Saving money with sustainable hygiene products – is that even possible? Absolutely! Here we introduce the reusable solutions for periods and bladder weakness.
Sustainable period products
Given the state of our environment, we should do everything we can to produce less (plastic) waste. The key word is reuse. Unlike disposables, washable hygiene products do not end up in the bin after use – they are cleaned and used again. Every single one of us can make a big contribution here. On average, we have our period around 500 times, and if we only used disposables, that would add up to roughly 10,000 to 17,000 items per person.
Saving money with menstrual cups

I love my menstrual cup and the little fabric pouch that comes with it. In general, I recommend using a menstrual cup because you can use it for longer, it feels natural and it is better for the environment than tampons, pads and the like. I now only use the SELENACARE Premium cup, even though I actually own another cup as well. You cannot feel it at all while wearing it, so I often even forget that I am on my period. At the beginning it takes a little while until you can position it properly, but it was exactly the same with tampons. After a few tries you get the hang of it and it causes no trouble at all.

Saving money with cloth pads & washable panty liners
Cloth pads and cloth panty liners are hardly any different to use than normal pads or liners. They are placed in your underwear and fastened – often with a press stud or a kind of clip system. Our period pants last up to 100 machine washes; after that, the antibacterial effect and absorbency may start to fade. The more gently you wash your period briefs, the longer you will enjoy them. And even after 100 washes there is no reason to throw them away – you can simply keep wearing them as normal underwear.
