Puberty – what does it actually mean?
Puberty is a phase in which your body develops from child to adult. A lot happens at the same time – controlled by hormones that set your development in motion. Some changes are clearly visible, others take place more on the inside. What's important: there is no "normal" that applies to everyone. Every body has its own pace. And that is absolutely okay.
Outer changes: what visibly changes
You may notice it first in your body – because a lot is going on here.
Typical outer changes:
- Your breasts start to grow
- Your hips get wider
- You get discharge for the first time
- Your first period announces itself
- You get spots or oilier skin
- You sweat more – body odour gets stronger
- Body hair starts to grow under your arms or in the intimate area
Body odour during puberty in particular is nothing unusual – your sweat glands work more actively, and sometimes that simply smells different. Daily washing, fresh clothes and breathable fabrics help you feel comfortable. A mild, fragrance-free deodorant can offer additional support – look for natural ingredients.
