Experiences with SELENACARE Menstrual Cups
By SELENACARE Redaktion · 17 February 2022

Have you tried a menstrual cup yet? Whether a period cup is right for you is something you have to find out yourself – simply by giving it a try.
Anna, Josepha and Silke share their experiences with SELENACARE menstrual cups. They tested our three different models – Basic, Active & Premium. Each of them used the cup day and night for a full cycle. Here they report on their experiences at work, during sport and while sleeping. At the end, the three testers draw their conclusions and give their recommendations.
SELENACARE menstrual cup test: Basic, Active & Premium
Our menstrual cup testers
Anna is 18 and has no experience with menstrual cups yet. She is trying a period cup for the first time in her life. That's why she chose our most affordable model, the Basic.
"Since I had no experience at all with a period cup, I first wanted to see whether it's even something for me. So I thought I'd start with the most affordable model."

Josepha is 26 and also has no experience with menstrual cups yet. She chose our SELENACARE Premium. A friend recommended a menstrual cup to her. Using our size guide she found the right size for her.

Silke is 30 and does a lot of sport. She swims regularly, does Pilates at a studio and yoga at home. She has already used the SELENACARE Premium cup. Because Silke has a very strong, well-trained pelvic floor from her regular workouts, a little blood occasionally leaked past the cup.
"Especially during Pilates, my strong pelvic floor squeezed the cup a bit. Sometimes a few drops of blood leaked out. On the SELENACARE homepage I read that there are menstrual cups with a firmer rim for sports freaks like me. Naturally, I wanted to try the 'Active' straight away."

Experiences with SELENACARE menstrual cups
SELENACARE Basic menstrual cup in the test
Anna bought her Basic in our online shop. At home, she cleaned the cup right away as instructed.
"I was really positively surprised by the price. When you consider that you can use the cup for several years, you end up with huge savings compared to conventional disposable products. And just to give the whole thing a try, it's really affordable."
"On the SELENACARE homepage I first watched a few videos by erdbeerwoche. They explain everything about the period cup really well. Once you've understood the principle, it's not complicated at all anymore. I had imagined the whole procedure to be much more cumbersome."
Anna is particularly enthusiastic about the medical-grade silicone.
"The material is so pleasant and soft. It makes insertion very easy."
Comfortable to wear day and night
Anna quickly got the hang of inserting and removing the cup and went to bed with her menstrual cup. After a restful night she was positively surprised. After this pleasant first experience with her SELENACARE menstrual cup, Anna went to school.
"At first I was a bit nervous about leaks. But: the cup stayed sealed and was super comfortable."
Anna also felt completely at ease while shopping with friends afterwards.
"I only had to empty the cup once that day. And while shopping I even forgot I was on my period. That's how comfortable the period cup was. My verdict: thumbs up! I recommended it to my best friend straight away!"

SELENACARE Premium menstrual cup in the test
Josepha also ordered her period cup in our shop. She was delighted that the set includes a sterilisation container.
"I think that's fantastic – my friend had to buy one separately for her cup from another brand."
She read up on handling – correct insertion and removal of the menstrual cup and the folding techniques – in our guide.
"Your texts and videos are very easy to understand and easy to read. Especially when you're a bit unsure at the beginning, they're a great help."
Like Anna, Josepha started trying it out in the evening.
"Somehow I was a little scared of inserting it. By now I don't even know why anymore. It's just unfamiliar. But once you practise a few times, it works very well. It's all a matter of practice."
Josepha was very satisfied after her first night with her Premium cup and was able to sleep through.
Swimming with a menstrual cup is no problem
After a – period-wise – relaxed day at the office, Josepha was brave.
"I was so thrilled with the cup that I thought: now I'll go swimming with it. After the long working day I felt like moving, and swimming a few laps always relaxes me completely."
Her friend had told Josepha that you can swim with a period cup without any problems. In the evening, Josepha drew her conclusion:
"Why didn't I buy this great thing sooner?! It really made my period day easier. Even while swimming I felt totally at ease. Absolute recommendation for the menstrual cup. So, give it a go – it's absolutely worth it!"

SELENACARE Active menstrual cup in the test
Like the other testers, Silke ordered her Active in our shop.
"Great that the Active also comes with the sterilisation container. It really is so practical and very high quality."
Since Silke had already used the Premium, she didn't need to practise insertion anymore. She knew how to handle it and started her sports test right away.
"I started with a yoga session at home. And the Active passed that test straight away. Nothing leaked."
Then it was off to the Pilates studio. Because Pilates exercises strongly engage the deep abdominal muscles, a little blood occasionally leaked for Silke. That was mainly because her regular training has given her a very strong pelvic floor.
"It literally squeezed the cup" (laughs)
But the Active cup with its firmer rim held up even to the Pilates class.
"I'm so happy! Now I can do sport again with my beloved menstrual cup! It's just so much more comfortable and hygienic than tampons and pads."

Make your own experience with menstrual cups
We hope the menstrual cup test by our three testers was insightful, informative and inspiring for you. Maybe you can identify with Anna, for whom the whole topic of the menstrual cup was completely new territory. Or, like Josepha, you've already heard about it from others but haven't quite dared yet?
Silke's experience with her SELENACARE menstrual cup shows that there is a suitable period cup for every need. And there is nothing a period cup can't handle. You can even swim without any problems.
Josepha was particularly enthusiastic about the material, and that's something we place special value on: we use only 100% medical-grade silicone. That's very important – after all, you wear the menstrual cup inside your body. Only the best for you!
